La Baie/Bath Scenes
Signed La Baie / Bath Scenes book $35.00 with free shipping.
La Baie is a beautiful book in its simple conception and the strength of its images-of men, not all young and attractive - rather, "man" using his body in an effort to stretch it and be comfortable with it. These bodies are boisterous and contemplative, they move with such life that they almost transcend the flatness of the photographic medium. And therein lies the photographer's art.
The setting of the bath pictures is Radauti, a small town in northeastern Rumania. The baths were owned by the Jewish Community, and used by them as well as the Rumanian people.
La Baie is the first photographic book that renders the male nude in a natural, unposed setting, and as such it should take its place among the classics of Nude Photography.
An introduction with technical data sheet written by Laurence Salzmann is included. Overall size of book is 8 3/4" x 11 3/4" (22 cm x 29.5 cm).
Laurence Salzmann is a film-maker and photographer. During 1974-1976 he lived and photographed in Rumania.* Photographs from his La Baie series are in the collections of the International Center of Photography, New York, Israel Museum, Jerusalem, Bibliotheque National, Paris, High Musem, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and The Philadelphia Free Library.
